active tween + gadget free day perhaps?

                                                                                           ....all is well in the K household after much talking thru of issues with Son....peace restored after 24 hours & xbox etc retored after 72 hours, grounding still stands!  life not easy as a tween obviously.....amazing how much time JK and I got to spend together when he had all of his 'gadgets' removed'.....i mentioned to Mr K that perhaps '1 gadget free day per week' might not be such a bad idea.  although son has a very balanced life, it really hit home just how much more communication we had without his involvement with MSN, XBox360, World of Warcraft & his phone. to give you an idea of his weekend ativities here is a list:

....son, JK's (12 yrs) weekend: finish homework/assignments, XBox360, World of Warcraft on computer), MSN with friends, swims in pool with friends/family, club futsal (indoor soccer) with parents, biking with mates, club soccer with parents, basketball hoops, phone messaging/talking with friends (minimal), out with parents or uncle & cousins, or movie with friends or go-karts or similar with Dad, takes puppy for walk/play.

....yes, a very active 12 year old, whose school week consists of 1st year of aussie high school & all of the work & academic activities it entails, playing sport year round for school (soccer & touch football) including training, Physical Education Classes (mixture of sports), x2 club soccer trainings, 2 academy soccer trainings, plus latley he's been doing a bit of extra swimming training to prepare for the school swimming carnival.

....today we spent a few hours packing for his 5 day school bush camp that he leaves for tomorrow morning (sob, sob). It is definitely getting easier now that he is not only older but has grown so much bigger as well. I know he can look after himself as I have taught him to be independent (he can wash, cook, clean, etc)...the only hurdle he will need to overcome is the 'bush' part!  being his Mother's son he tells me that 'I'm not using any bush toilet or digging any hole. I'm only using a toilet seat!!!" Get the prune juice ready for his return I think!'

PS. New Zealand beat Australia in the cricket & are unbeatable in the 3 match series at 2-0. ssshhh...Aussie Mr K NOT HAPPY!!!

Who is this boy & what have you done with my son?

 

.....sometimes I don't recognise the 'alien' who has taken over my son JK’s  body & walks out of his room in the mornings!  One minute he was a charming, sweet, communicative, HELPFUL little boy, who worshipped & adored his mommy (sigh) & then one day....well, one day, I think aliens descended, abducted him, gave him a brain & hormone implant & sent ‘something’  back to me!

One thing that has made a huge difference to his mood swings are some good quality Fish Oil Capsules & a Multi Vitamin supplement (with zinc), which my naturopath recommended.  The difference from when he takes them as compared to not taking them is incredible.......they even help him focus on his schoolwork!  The naturopath says Zinc very important for boys this age.  I won't talk to him (no point as I get crappy grunting back) until he has brekky then his supps in the mornings....then miraculously my son reappears....hallelujah!  Of course, I have to drive the supp taking but totally worth it...he says they make him feel less angry and crappy too.  As for my sanity, well, I wake up every morning to a beautiful picture board next to my bed with photos of him at 1 yr, 3yrs & 5 ys......and smile, 'cause I know that same lil’ boy is still in that boy/tween body:-)
