Today is Friday in Australia and as I prepare to pick son up from school, I wonder if he is talking to Mr K & I yet? All hell broke loose last night....son seems unsettled at school and I am hoping that his Year 8 five day School Camping Trip (in the Gold Coast Hinterland Bush) next week will help him settle down......he is grounded this weekend for locking himself in bathroom last nite (didn't get his own way over homework rules).....lost Xbox for not doing homework + lost his phone and MSN priviledges for talking disrespectfully to me....yep, he sure hit the jackpot last night....and pushed EVERY ONE OF MY BUTTONS IN THE PROCESS!
On a brighter note, my home Country, New Zealand, celebrates Waitangi Day today, with a public holiday. The Treaty of Waitangi was signed on 6 February 1840, in a marquee erected in the grounds of James Busby's house (now known as the Treaty house) at Waitangi in the Bay of Islands, New Zealand. The Treaty made New Zealand a part of the British Empire, guaranteed Māori rights to their land and gave Māori the rights of British citizens. At one stage in our history this day was called New Zealand Day, so it gives you a bit of insight into it's importance. It is also a day of controversy as Maori activists often protest about maori land rights & the importance & significance if the Treaty of Waitangi, which they consider has not always been treated with the respect is it due. Māori have generally seen the Treaty as a sacred pact, while for many years Pākehā (the Māori word for New Zealanders of predominantly European ancestry) ignored it.
In Australia today, two great rivalling teams, the Australian & the New Zealand (Kiwis) cricket teams, go head to head in a fierce battle of ONE DAY CRICKET. New Zealand is already 1 up in the 3 match series, so the Aussies are out for revenge. With Mr K and Bro-out-law K, being Aussies, things tend get to get a bit heated in the K household during the game and then a little chilly when there is a result! Being Waitangi Day, I say, BRING IT ON!!!!
Off to get son now....that could be a bit chilly too....brrrrrr.......
